Information about Bishop's University
Bishop’s University (BU) is one of the oldest universities in Canada. Located close to the Canadian-US border, It is one of the few English universities in Quebec. BU is situated on a small hill. Its well-proportioned structure and winding patterns earn it the nickname of garden university.
The university is a hub between several major Canadian and American cities, 30 minutes’ drive from the Canadian-US border and 90 minutes’ drive from Canada’s second largest city Montreal. There is a daily shuttle service between the university and Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.
BU is situated in Sherbrooke, a city which has a humid continental climate, with long winters, short springs and falls, and cool summers. The temperature in the city ranges from -5 °C (January) to 25 °C (July). Sherbrook is in Eastern Time Zone (UTC−5), with 13 hours’ difference with Beijing.
Established in the eighteenth century and situated in a French-speaking region, the city has a predominantly Canadian and French population. There are not many Chinese residents in Sherbrook, which provides a good language environment for students to communicate in English and French.
Bishop’s University is a primarily undergraduate university and also offers graduate courses. It has five academic divisions: Division of Social Sciences, School of Education, Division of Humanities, Williams School of Business, and Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Its programs range from humanities and sciences to business administration and education.
